"Before (Phil Cubeta), there was nothing."
Thanks to GiftHub.org for the shout-out. We'll see if I can live up to praise.
I cannot remember how I worked before Phil entered my head and messed it all up. I vaguely recall focusing on utilizing my marketing background and MBA -- "the valuable part of my education" -- far more than my formal training in poetry and my background as a graduate of Catholic prep school. I certainly did not realize how the ideal training for my job was my stint as a bartender.
But then I found www.GiftHub.org and my world shifted.
I began to see how my calling was not entirely different from that of my brother Andrew -- now Br. Stephen, O.Cist.
I began to realize that the long-term goal of my work was not the raising of funds, but the transformation of lives -- not the lives of "clients," but donors.
Capitalism meets pastoral counseling, as it were.
Then, I ran into Phil at a conference, and found out he lived in Dallas. It was destiny, I realized, for me to become his devotee.
The mystical poet Rumi had Shams.
The social entrepreneur Bob Buford had Peter Drucker.
I have a man who prophesies from a dumpster on the backside of Wealth Bondage:

Here's to the world as it should be, Phil. Pass the Thunderbird.
